As part of the Government of Canada’s ongoing commitment to improving economic development opportunities for Aboriginal people, the Government of Canada is investing in the next phase of the Grey Rocks Power Centre on the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation in New Brunswick. The funding will help with the development of a shopping mall.
Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Minister Bernard Valcourt was joined by Madawaska Chief Patricia Bernard today to announce an approval of up to $1,000,000 to assist with this next phase of the development. The First Nation is providing equity to this $6.5 million project, as well as securing commercial financing.

The Madawaska Maliseet Economic Development Corporation did a great job with the application process and the federal support we receive is greatly appreciated and our partnership with the federal government will help us achieve our goals of eventually being completely self-sufficient.
