Another month of school over and it was a busy one. October celebrated Mi’kmaq History Month, celebrations of our students’ accomplishments with our weekly Welluqwet winners. Every Friday each grade gathers up all the ballots that students have earned for doing good work/deeds. Administration draws from the container of names and the winners are then rewarded with an item from our selection of goodies. Congratulations to all the weekly winners. Keep up the great work.

Some of our students were participants in the Sipekne’katik Youth Moose Hunt in Cape Breton. I am sure that they had a great weekend of hunting, bonding and experiencing our traditional ways. Thank you to the organizers of the event.

Our elementary students were able to get outside and have some fun at the Riverbreeze Corn Maze Farm. Some of the activities included a bouncy playground, petting zoo, corn maze, tractor drive, climbing areas, tyre racing and of course, tons and tons of pumpkins. Thankfully, it was a beautiful autumn day for this outdoor field trip.

Speaking of field trips, some of the high school students were invited to attend an exhibition opening at the MSVU gallery. It was the Life Cycle of a Boat. Our students attended the exhibition because in 2021, along with some students from Acadia First Nation, they worked together to build a boat. According to Ms. Hilchey, grade 7 teacher, the exhibition will be open until November 30th, 2023.
