Hi folks! It has been a couple of months since I have been able to write a submission due to the fact that we have been super busy here at LSK. February was the month that our teachers moved many of their sessions to outdoor learning. Students enjoyed snowshoeing, while others went on scavenger hunts. It might have been cold, but that didn’t stop anyone from participating. Many opportunities for our students to participate in outdoor educations and the cultural significance to our heritage.
In keeping with the cultural presentations, Mr. Terry Denny of Eskasoni came to our school to do a presentation on February 8th. This hour and a half presentation for grades primary to twelve was in regards to hunting and the cultural tools used in order to tend to the furs.
Our Mental Health Elder, Mrs. Leanna MacLeod, started last month. She has been busy going around the school introducing herself to staff and students. She is in-house on Monday(s), Wednesday(s) and Friday(s). Leanna will be utilizing traditional ways of conversing/healing with the staff. In turn, staff will gain experience of how to utilize our traditional teachings in their classrooms. Pjila’si Leanna.
Our potential graduates had their graduation pictures taken last week and it was nice to see some students bring in their friends/family members in to pose with them. I can’t wait to see the final photos.
