Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (Nova Scotia) was awarded the Cheryl Copage Gehue, Sipekne’katik First Nation.
The medal program honours the 70 – year reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who has dedicated her life to the service of family, community, and country.
This medal was awarded to a distinguished group of Nova Scotians who have done much to build and enhance our Province. To be eligible for this award, you needed to be nominated and demonstrate that you have made a positive impact on society, with particular focus on the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, reconciliation with First Nations and Inuit and protection of the environment. The medal was created to remind everyone and oneself of the importance of your own accomplishments and commemorate this significant and unique milestone for the Queen.
Cheryl Gehue is an elected Council member for her home community of Sipekne’katik First Nation. Cheryl is also the Indigenous Advisor for the Halifax Regional Municipality and has dedicated her work in both sectors to advancement of the Mi’kmaw Nation, reconciliation efforts and to creating opportunities to showcase the resiliency & beauty of the Mi’kmaw people and urban indigenous communities.
