What happens when a natural disaster hits our community and there isn’t any power to cook?? You head to LSK school. The school is equipped with a generator system that is large enough to run the entire building and our Educational Director, Ms. Velvet Paul, thought that it would be beneficial to provide our community members with some hot meals. She immediately contacted the school’s head cook, Mrs. Shannon Oliver-Sack, to see if this would be possible. Once agreed upon, Velvet contacted Autumn Maloney (EA) and Norma Paul (EA) to see if they would be willing to assist with the project. Both Autumn and Norma have spent time volunteering in the kitchen when the school was short-staffed. Between these two ladies, they have a great deal of experience with preparing meals for large numbers.

The next person that Velvet contacted was Leeanne Maloney (EA). Leeanne immediately put a call out for staff assistance on our school’s Facebook page. The first two additional staff members to come in to help were Elle Michael (teacher) and Tammi Michael (EA).

In addition to the ladies working in the kitchen cooking food, some of the community members also came in to help deliver meals to our seniors and community members who were unable to leave their homes. It truly was a team effort. Over 400 people were fed for every meal.
