We had the honour and privilege to sit with Keptin Dr. Donald Julien of Millbrook NS who came and had some pɨtewey (bit-eh-whey) and shared his lived experiences with our team at Ulnooweg.
Keptin Dr. Julien’s love of family isn’t missed as the smile grows across his face as he speaks proudly of his wife Diane, their 3 sons Donnie, Troy and Justin, 1 daughter Denise and numerous grandchildren.
Keptin Dr. Julien was the only child of his parents. His grandfather was Chief Christopher Morris of the Kings Road Reserve in Sydney NS until 1914, then became a Constable so gave up his Chiefdom and in 1915 moved to Millbrook as the Prayer Leader as well as becoming Chief for the next 40+years.
Interestingly, among the many stories he shared, one was that his ancestor, his Great-Great-Great grandfather King John Julian (they referred to him as King) was a signator to the last treaty signed in 1794 in Miramichi.
