If you have been following along with us on our Cultural Tourism journey, you will know that we have been exploring authenticity and what it means to be authentically Mi’kmaq within a cultural tourism context. One of the most important aspects of marketing the authenticity of Mi’kmaw products and services is the development of a brand logo, and in our December article we highlighted the feedback about the Spirit of the Mi’kmaq logo from the community engagement sessions. In follow up to that, a small and select group of respected and celebrated Mi’kmaw artists in Nova Scotia were invited to submit an expression of interest to create the Mi’kmaw Logo / Branding Trademark for Mi’kmaw Artists, Crafters, and Cultural Tourism operators. Every Mi’kmaw community was given the opportunity to identify artists to participate, and 10 artists submitted expressions of interest. This information was taken back to the Assembly, and we are excited to be able to announce who will be doing this important work very soon!
