After a long, well deserved, Christmas break, students and staff are back to in-house learning. Before I continue, I must congratulate both our staff and students for their adaptability to participating in the online learning process. Many students were more prepared this time, due to the fact that our Educational Department and Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey made it possible for all Sipekne’katik students to receive their own new Chromebook to use at home. Since our second shut down happened so quickly, students were not given an opportunity to learn how to use their Chromebooks at school. Luckily, many parents/guardians/family members/friends were able to assist their child(ren) with the process. BIG SHOUT OUT to them for their assistance and guidance. Since we returned to school, a request was made for students to bring their Chromebooks back with them. This will ensure that all students are very confident with using the programs on their own. Teachers will continue to utilize the Chromebooks in-class for assignments and lessons.
Being back at school seems to be a bit easier this time around. Everyone is fully aware of the Covid 19 protocols and now it is the norm for wearing masks, social distancing and hand washing/sanitizing. A few of the protocols have been relaxed for our high school students. Senior high students can now eat their lunch in the cafeteria as a group, while maintaining their social distancing.
