Chain Pickerel are an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) in Mi’kma’ki. Since their illegal introduction in Digby County in the 1940s, they have continued to spread throughout the province. Chain Pickerel are a threat because they can easily outcompete naturally occurring species. They pose a threat to Species at Risk, including Plamu (Atlantic Salmon). Since the Mi’kmaw Conservation Group (MCG) started the Chain Pickerel Project in 2017, staff have taken note of the most frequently asked questions about these fish.
