Mi’kmaq Right to sell their treaty catches is discussed in the 1999 Supreme court of Canada Decision of R. V. Marshall.
The Supreme Court of Canada’s opening paragraphs in the 1999 Marshall decision is somewhat fitting to understand the continuity of the Mi’kmaw right to sell, the integral role of trade within Mi’kmaw societies and also to the role of women in Mi’kmaw trade and commerce.
