On October 16th -17th, 2019, Ron Smith of the University of New Brunswick/VarFor Ltd. facilitated a two-day training on Good Agricultural Collection Practices Course. This course teaches safety, quality assurance, and traceability for wild harvested products from the field and forest. All participants were women and all had an interest in harvesting non-timber forest products (NTFPs) for the purposes of contributing items to a cooperative of harvesters and artists. Through this training, participants developed knowledge to participate more fully in the natural resource sector by learning the voluntary practices to follow when collecting, handling, and processing non-timber forest products.

The Good Agricultural Collection Practices Course will be offered again in Millbrook February 8th – 9th 2020. If you are interested in this free training opportunity or on more information about the cooperative of artists and harvesters, contact Justin Fiddes at 902-956-4823 or jfiddes@cmmns-denr.ca.
