MEMBERTOU – A symposium on Mi’kmaq child welfare has produced a consensus that there are gaps in the province’s social services network.
About 130 people, representing Native communities, social services agencies and other interested stakeholders, gathered at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre for two days of discussion that wrapped up Tuesday.
The symposium was held behind closed doors due to the personal nature of many of the stories recounted during the discussions, said PJ Prosper, chief of the Paqtknek First Nation near Antigonish.
