Sipuke’l Gallery opened on June 3rd with the Grand Opening on June 21st to coincide with National Aboriginal Day. The Gallery is owned by Acadia First Nation and is located in the historic Old Town Hall, Liverpool, N.S. Sipuke’l Gallery (Beside the River) overlooks the shores of the culturally significant and picturesque Mersey River.

For thousands of years the Mersey River and the surrounding communities have been home to Mi’kmaw people who have enriched the area with their legends, art, music, spirituality, history and language. The Gallery offers visitors a glimpse of historically significant items to help tell the story and the rich history of the Mi’kmaq, along with contemporary Mi’kmaw artists.

On June 21st artist Leonard Paul will open the Sipuke’l Gallery along with a traditional smudging, drummers and dancers. The Gallery aims to showcase our talented Mi’kmaw artists and crafters as well as planning cultural education workshops to promote and preserve Mi’kmaw culture. The event is open to all and admission is free. The Old Town Hall and Sipuke’l Gallery opening ceremony starts at 1 p.m. at 219 Main Street, Liverpool, N.S.
