Fishing for ji’kaw in the Pekwitapa’qek.

Night has fallen over the calm and clear waters of Pitu’pa’q (Bras d’Or Lake). Skyler Jeddore, Apoqnmatulti’k community liaison, and Caitlin Bate, a master’s student at Dalhousie University, are preparing their fishing gear for another night of angling for ji’kaw (striped bass). They are accompanied by community members who are avid fishers, eager to support the project and learn more about ji’kaw.

“In Pitu’pa’q, community members have shared that ji’kaw are most active at night. It is their key feeding time and the best chance we have to catch a few for tagging,” says Caitlin.
