Unama’ki – Cape Breton, NS – Wagmatcook First Nation proudly announced that the Mi’kmaw Community is now a partner-owner of Breton Air, based at the J.A. Douglas Mccurdy Airport in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
As a result of the new partnership whereas Wagmatcook First Nation has partnered with Breton Air and formed Kitpu Aviation as the company’s fixed-based operator for the ground services at the Airport. Kitpu is the Mi’kmaw language word for Eagle, important and sacred to Mi’kmaw culture and spirituality.
Breton Air provides helicopter services for all Atlantic Canada. Aside from servicing some of the most exclusive lodges, retreats, and golf courses, Breton Air also provides fly-in/out services, aerial construction and remote cargo delivery to many industrial stakeholders. The company has provided service to many local and regional leaders, including Emera, Parks Canada, Cabot Cape Breton, Destination Cape Smokey, and most recently the Province of Nova Scotia for emergency fire suppression during the Halifax wildfires in Tantallon and Shelburne.
