December 3, 2023, Corner Brook—The Band Council assembled this weekend to select one of the two regional Vice-Chiefs to stand in as Acting Chief following the recent resignation of Brendan Mitchell.

We are pleased to share that Western Vice Chief Jenny Brake has accepted the responsibility and, effective immediately, will lead Qalipu First Nation as Acting Chief until a Chief can be elected by the membership at the next Band election expected to take place in October 2024.

Acting Chief Brake shared, “I thank the Council for putting their faith in me and look forward to the opportunity to work collectively with Council and community as we continue to advance the many priorities of our membership. I would like to extend my best wishes to Chief Mitchell in his new position as AFN Regional Chief for Newfoundland and thank him for his contributions to Qalipu First Nation.”
