November was a hectic month for our staff at the Atlantic First Nations Water Authority as we moved closer to December and begin on boarding community-based water operators. Our team grew to 25 this past month when Chandler Fraser came on board as our new Junior IT Coordinator. Chandler is a member of Pictou Landing First Nation. He graduated from NSCC this past May with a diploma in Cyber Security. Before joining AFNWA, Chandler was working for Pictou Landing’s band office. Working alongside our IT Coordinator Trevor Martin at our Louise Street office, Chandler is providing deskside IT support for internal employees, procuring equipment for IT-related functions, planning, configuring, and deploying IT assets to staff and maintaining information in AFNWA ServiceDesk.

We kicked off the month with a “Lunch and Learn” with 2023 North American Indigenous Games’ (NAIG) Director of Culture and Engagement, Serene Porter, and Community and Culture Coordinator, Tessa Weekusk. Serene and Tessa stopped by our Louise Street office in Truro to give a presentation to our staff about the games and the many available volunteer opportunities.
