June 21, 2022 – Miramichi – Ninen Productions is pleased to announce that their documentary film My Name Is Wolastoq is set to air on CBC on July 2, 2022 at 9:00am AST and will also be available for viewing on the CBC Gem platform also starting on July 2.
My Name Is Wolastoq follows a young Wolastoqew man, Riley Gaffney, who undertakes a journey to explore and claim his Indigenous cultural identity, while also following the efforts of Wolastoqi elders who work to create awareness and momentum for efforts to reclaim the original Indigenous name of the Wolastoq (Saint John) River.
The film was shot across New Brunswick in the Fall and Winter of 2022. It is produced by Ninen Productions. The film is Directed by Nate Gaffney, the Senior Creative Producer is Adam Lordon, and the Executive Producers are Marcel LeBrun, Dr. David Perley, Opolahsomuwehs (Imelda Perley), and Chet Welsey. Co-Directors of Photography are Desmond Simon and Laughlan Ough.
Subjects appearing in the film include Riley Gaffney, Regional Chief Ron Trembley, Chief Alan Polchies, Chief Patricia Bernard, Cecelia Brooks, Anthony Brooks, Shane Perley-Dutcher, Dr. David Perley, Opolahsomuwehs (Imelda Perley), Charlie Gaffney, Cynthia Gaffney, and The Muskrat Singers.
The film features several tracks from Wolastoqew musician Jeremy Dutcher.
