November 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of The Mi’kmaq Maliseet Nations News. Hard to believe that in 1986, I was a summer student working under the direction of Rick Simon, and now I am the Editor of the paper. This didn’t happen overnight; it took 10 years of training under the direction of editor Tim Bernard. For myself I started in the elections department at The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq but when that contract was up, Tim asked me to take on the task as Manager at Eastern Woodland Print Communications, which also takes care of MMNN. At first, I was hesitant as I really didn’t know much about the print business or the process of publishing the paper but 11 years later, I am still here.
