Despite many events being cancelled this year due to the Covid virus, many communities still decided to hold their yearly St Anne’s Celebrations but with new rules in place.
Mask were worn by most and social distancing also took place but in all, many people gathered as they have for years to celebrate our Dear Lady of St Anne.

In Sipekne’katik, the ladies gathered to wash the Patron Saint of the Mi’kmaw with holy water gathered during Holy Week at Easter and the cloth that was used to wash the statue is normally given to the sick or placed in special places for those who need it.

Due to rules implemented by the Bishop, large gatherings were not recommended so the largest celebration that normally takes place in Chapel island was a smaller than normal gathering this year. Many were grateful just to go and visit.

Here is to hoping things return to normal next year!
