Disrespecting Women, not a Mi’kmaw Cultural tradition

If we are to follow the great example set by our ancestors we males must have the highest respect for the contributions of the female members of Mi’kmaw society and for women of all societies. To demean women and treat them as if they are servants of men is showing total disrespect and disregard for the fact that they are the people who assure that ours and all other societies will continue to exists!

Prior to the invasion of the Americas by Europeans in 1492, Mi’kmaw women and children enjoyed high status in Mi’kmaw culture, they were the bearers of future generations and were the assurance of the Nation’s continue ...
