This proud Mi’kmaw community located in southwestern Nova Scotia, next to Yarmouth, continues to expand its commercial fisheries enterprise (CFE) with an eye for the future. Since 2016, Acadia First Nation has acquired five new lobster fishing licenses, and they plan to purchase additional fishing licenses in the coming years. Their business strategy is to grow access for the benefit of future generations.
The population of Acadia First Nation has risen considerably in recent years and now stands at over 1600 members. This trend is expected to continue, at least in the near-term. Community leaders are forecasting a growth in the numbers of young people in the not too distant future.
