FREDERICTON – A document entitled New Brunswickers’ Response to Climate Change was released today as the final report of the select committee on climate change.

The all-party committee of the legislative assembly was tasked with consulting the public and interested stakeholders on the issue of climate change and how it may be addressed in a way that respects the province’s distinct economic challenges and opportunities.
“I am very proud of the work that the committee did to prepare this report,” said Andrew Harvey, committee chair and MLA for Carleton-Victoria. “It was a privilege to travel throughout the province and listen to New Brunswickers, who are clearly passionate about our province and concerned about the impacts of climate change on our environment.”

In June, the committee issued an invitation to all New Brunswickers to participate in public hearings and submit written briefs. During August and September, public hearings took place in Perth-Andover, Edmundston, Atholville, Shippagan, Moncton, Sackville, Saint John, Fredericton and the First Nations communities of Elsipogtog and Tobique. The committee also received public briefings from notable experts and government departments.

More than 150 presenters took the time to appear before the committee, and many more attended public hearings. In addition, the committee received more than 40 written submissions.
