Eel Ground First Nation – The provincial government is providing $20,000 in funding to the 2016 New Brunswick Indian Summer Games.

“I am pleased to support Eel Ground First Nation as it hosts the 2016 New Brunswick Indian Summer Games in the Miramichi region,” said Ed Doherty, minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs. “The games will provide a positive experience for those involved as it brings all the First Nations communities together through sport.”

About 1,000 athletes and coaches from all 15 Mi’kmaq and Maliseet communities across the province are expected to compete in sports such as archery, athletics, ball hockey, baseball, badminton, soccer and volleyball.

“Eel Ground is pleased to have been chosen to host the 2016 New Brunswick Indian Summer Games,” said Chief George H. Ginnish of the Eel Ground First Nation. “We welcome all First Nation communities and their athletes in the spirit of peace and friendship to enjoy the week of activities. We thank all of our sponsors, co-ordinators, coaches and volunteers who are integral to making the games a success year after year.”

In addition to sports, the games are also an opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal culture and heritage.

The 2016 New Brunswick Indian Summer Games will be held from July 26 to July 31 at Eel Ground First Nation.
