Dartmouth – Chiefs in the Atlantic & Gaspe regions are encouraged by the federal government’s commitment to extend Atlantic Integrated Commercial Fisheries Initiative for one year. Capacity building efforts as part of the program are intended to improve First Nation level performance including better business practices in the Atlantic Fishery. These activities are critical to the communities and the revenues and the jobs supported by these investments.
“Our First Nations can continue to plan and work on maintaining jobs, revenues and move further toward long term economic sustainability in the fishery” noted APC Co-Chair Chief Deborah Robinson. “These investments help strengthen our communities and our fishers who are the foundation to our operations in each and every community” stated newly appointed Co-Chair Chief Dean Vicaire APC Co-Chair from Listuguj.
The important work of the Atlantic Integrated Commercial Fisheries Initiative will continue to ensure a solid business approach and strong governance model as First Nation communities work together with the federal government on important fishery issues.
