The Mi’kmaq – Nova Scotia – Canada Tripartite Forum Justice Committee is hosting a series of public forums in Mi’kmaq communities to review the Marshall Inquiry Recommendations from 1989. A total of 16 forums will be held; one in each of the 13 Mi’kmaw communities, one with the Nova Scotia Native Council, one hosted by Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association, and one at the Mi’kmaq Native Friendship Centre to ensure that the perspectives of off-reserve Mi’kmaw population are represented in the research. The Tripartite Forum was established as a result of Recommendation 22 of the Marshall Inquiry.

The Marshall Inquiry Recommendations Evaluation project focuses on a community consultation approach to evaluating the outcomes from and impacts of the 82 recommendations in the Report of Royal Commission on the Donald Marshall Junior Prosecution (the Marshall Inquiry), paying particular attention to the eleven recommendations (20-30) under the heading ’Nova Scotia Micmac and the Criminal Justice System‘. The project’s goals are to develop a thorough picture of the impact of the recommendations, and to identify successes and gaps from the perspectives of Mi’kmaw community members.
