OTTAWA, November 28, 2012 – Gordon Moore, Dominion President of The Royal Canadian Legion, announced a grant of $5,000.00 to the University of Western Ontario for its Aboriginal Veterans Homelessness Research pilot project earlier today at Dominion Command.
“This pilot project represents another phase of our National Homelessness Veterans’ Strategy we announced earlier this year,” said Mr. Moore. “This pilot project will lay the foundation to better understand the meaning of homelessness among Aboriginal Veterans and better understand the meaning of urban, rural and remote circular migration,” added Mr. Moore.
The pilot project, lead by Dr. Susan Ray, Associate Professor/Associate Scientist at University of Western Ontario’s Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing, will include a sample of 8 to 10 homeless Aboriginal Veterans in the Toronto area with a view of expanding the study in order to understand the experience of homelessness Aboriginal Veterans across Canada who are transitioning to civilian life. The aim of this research is to ensure that policies, programs and resources are available to meet the needs of all Veterans and their families.
