The community of Membertou gathered last month to celebrate their achievements and growth over the past year and to hear Membertou’s plans for the future.
On March 8, Chief Terry Paul joined community members, employees and friends for the Membertou Awards Banquet and Annual Address. As the community came together to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, Chief Paul made exciting announcements about the future of Membertou and investments and infrastructure that were being put into the local community.
Among these announcements were a new K-9 school, new housing developments, a ped-way system connecting the new Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton with the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre as well as a Membertou Tim Hortons.
When the iconic Tim Hortons logo was displayed on the screens behind the podium, the crowd erupted, letting out a huge cheer for the coffee and donut chain.
Chief Paul also announced the creation of a Membertou Sports and Wellness Centre that will include ice pads, a swimming pool and a fitness centre that will allow the community to focus on their own wellbeing.
The 3D visual rendition of the future Membertou Sports and Wellness Centre sent waves of excitement through the room, and the sound of cheering and clapping filled the space once again.
The community of Membertou is creating a vibrant community by creating new projects as well as working with their existing businesses and services to create plans for the future that will provide employment, education and a positive future for their people.
